Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is the most talked-about fashion show in the world. This year, the show was filmed in Paris in The Grand Palais’ huge venue where 52 girls walked and enjoyed performances from Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and The Weeknd. The show was broadcasted in 190 countries and dominated social media.
The show was opened by an exotic section called “The Road Ahead” and Elsa Hosk was the lucky angel who opened the show. This section with rich colours and multi-cultural designs reminded me of Chinese culture. The clothes featured fringes and pom poms going for a punk but luxurious theme. Arpana Rayamajhi, the jewelry maker, explained that she was going for a different concept for this section; combination of cultures around the world.
Lady Gaga performed for the “Mountain Romance” section. She adapted her outfit for the theme which was florals. The models walked the runway covered in delicate and feminine embroidery and flowers.
This year the Pink section called “Pink Nation” was slightly different from the past years. It focused on athleisure and the fashion designer Nicola Formichetti made an impact with his featuring looks.
The concept was street culture mixing fantasies with real clothing. The clothes were simple, the idea was for them not to be over-powering. The Pink dogs can be seen as accessories and entertainment, showing a fun aspect of fashion.
“Secret Angel” section was all about the Parisian life as they had a lot of outfits including the popular french item, the trench-coat. The models wore lace and sexy cut-outs as they walked the runway trying to seduce the guests.
“Dark Angel” section was presented well because of The Weeknd’s performance. His lyrics got along with the dark and sexy theme. This section showed a mysterious side of every angel.
After a dark and moody section, “Bright Night” lighted up the runway with its dazzling details and popular outfits such as The Fantasy Bra and The Swarovski Outfit.
Jasmine Tookes was the lucky angel who dominated the runway with The Fantasy Bra and Josephine Skriver wore the custom Swarovski look. The sparkling garment featured 450,000 Swarovski crystals and the sleeves weigh up to 10 pounds each. The sparkling thigh-high boots featured 1,630 crystals and they were designed by Brian Atwood.
